Protecting Your Online Identity Against Cyber Attacks

The impact of threat actors targeting organizations, businesses, and individuals cannot be understated. Cyber security authorities around the world have cited the rapid increase of online threats in the past two years as a source of concern that must be addressed.

It’s expected that over the next two years cyber attacks will increase, which will create uncertainty, undermine correct information and credibility, and ultimately, degrade trust in online spaces. The proliferation of ransomware as a method of extortion seems to confirm such claims.

Cyber criminals’ use of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation (MDM) has evolved in a way that fake news and content have become increasingly more difficult to detect as they have been used to manipulate the public’s opinions, interfere with political communication, and steal sensible data.

According to the Institute for Public Relations, 63% of Americans view online disinformation as a major problem in society, but note how there are limited avenues to combat it successfully.

Beyond the conventional security steps to protect our online identities, such as: securing accounts with strong passwords, fact-checking information, and safe browsing, etc., it’s important to seek cyber security professionals to conduct penetration testing and be ahead of the curve in order to mitigate the risks of an attack.
